Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Cultural ambassadors play a pivotal role in preserving and promoting traditional festivals by acting as custodians of cultural heritage. In Minna Local Government Area (LGA), Niger State, traditional festivals such as the Gani festival and Nupe Day are integral to the community's identity and serve as a platform for cultural expression. Cultural ambassadors, often selected based on their deep knowledge of local traditions, are responsible for advocating the significance of these festivals, ensuring their continuity, and fostering community pride. According to Bello and Musa (2024), cultural ambassadors are instrumental in bridging generational gaps by educating younger generations about their heritage while also engaging stakeholders to attract tourism and investment. Despite their importance, cultural ambassadors in Minna LGA face challenges such as inadequate funding, limited platforms for advocacy, and diminishing interest in traditional festivals among the youth. This study examines the role of cultural ambassadors in promoting traditional festivals, focusing on their contributions, challenges, and the impact of their efforts on cultural preservation.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Traditional festivals in Minna LGA are increasingly under threat due to modernization, urbanization, and declining interest among the younger population. Cultural ambassadors, who are tasked with promoting these festivals, often lack the necessary resources and support to carry out their responsibilities effectively. This study addresses these issues by exploring the role of cultural ambassadors in promoting traditional festivals in Minna LGA.
